SFH visits Shanghai

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, leaves for Shanghai today (October 20) to visit health and funeral facilities there, and tour Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo).

Dr Chow will call on the Director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, Mr Xu Jianguang, to share their experiences in carrying out healthcare reform and tobacco control measures in the two places. He will also meet the Director of the Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Centre, Dr Chen Jianping. The Centre is a hospital management centre set up by the Shanghai Municipal Government. A memorandum on co-operation in medical and nursing services was signed between the Centre and Hong Kong's Hospital Authority in 2007. Dr Chow will then visit the Affiliated Children's Hospital of Fudan University as a reference for the later establishment in Hong Kong of a medical centre of excellence in paediatrics.

In addition, Dr Chow will meet the Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, Mr Wang Wanli, to exchange views on construction of columbarium and funeral facilities, as well as management of communal graves. Dr Chow will also visit public and private funeral facilities there to see whether Hong Kong can draw on their experiences.

During his stay in Shanghai, Dr Chow will visit Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition at Shanghai Expo to try the interactive devices of "Smart Card‧Smart City‧Smart Life". He will also tour the China Pavilion and Hong Kong Pavilion, and attend the closing event for Hong Kong Week.

Dr Chow will return to Hong Kong on Saturday night (October 23).
