HK Pavilion model on display at HK Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery (with photos)

A model of the Hong Kong Pavilion built for the Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) is now on display at Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery until October 31.

Visitors can take a close look at the model to learn more about the design and how it represents the theme "Hong Kong - Potential Unlimited".

The model shows a large, transparent and mirrored exhibition area in the middle of the pavilion, which signifies the freedom and openness of Hong Kong society.

The sleek and contemporary pavilion will showcase the infinite imagination and creativity of Hong Kong and its people.

At night, dynamic facade lighting will change the look of the pavilion to illustrate the constantly evolving nature of the Hong Kong cityscape.

The pavilion's three exhibition levels highlight different aspects of Hong Kong's connectivity and creativity.

They are "Connected to the Global Village" on the ground level; "Connected by Ideas, Information and Diversity" on the mid-level; and, "Connected to Nature" on the rooftop level.

The pavilion includes sustainable design features such as folded and perforated aluminium cladding which is lightweight and can be recycled; solar photovoltaic panels to generate electricity; vegetation and greenery on the roof to reduce heat gain; and external pavers around the pavilion made of recycled glass and aggregates that can absorb pollutants from the atmosphere.

The display is open at the Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery from 10am to 6pm daily until October 31. It is closed on Tuesdays except public holidays. Admission is free.

The Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery is located on G/F, Murray Road Multi-storey Car Park Building, Central. The Gallery showcases the planning proposals and infrastructure projects by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to enhance the quality of life and strengthen Hong Kong's status as Asia's world city.

The Shanghai Expo will be held from May 1 to October 31, 2010. More than 240 countries, cities and international organisations will participate in the expo, which is expected to attract 70 million visitors from the Mainland and worldwide.

Apart from constructing and operating a stand-alone Hong Kong Pavilion, taking part in the UBPA Exhibition, and taking part in Expo Shanghai Online, Hong Kong will hold more than 55 events and activities during the six-month expo period.
