More than 36,000 visitors tour Shanghai exhibition on HK's participation in Expo (with photos)

A two-week exhibition in Shanghai to promote Hong Kong's participation in World Expo 2010 attracted more than 36,000 Mainland and overseas visitors.

The exhibition was held at the Exhibition Centre of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China at Hong Kong New World Tower. During the period of the exhibition from July 1 to 14, the centre also received its one-millionth visitor, who was from Japan.

Mr Patrick Chan, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, said today (July 16) that visitors were delighted to have this unique opportunity to get a first-hand impression of what Hong Kong would showcase during the upcoming mega event, which will take place in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31, 2010.

"The feedback from the visitors to our exhibition was very positive. They expressed great interest in visiting the Hong Kong Pavilion during the Expo period. We are confident that our pavilion will impress visitors with the connectivity and creativity of Hong Kong, which are the main themes of our participation," said Mr Chan.

Under the theme "Hong Kong - A City with Unlimited Potential", the Hong Kong Pavilion's sleek contemporary design features a huge transparent void occupying the entire mid-level, symbolising the openness and transparency of Hong Kong society.

The exhibition was jointly organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Co-ordination. Apart from promoting the Hong Kong Pavilion, the exhibition also highlighted Hong Kong's participation in the Urban Best Practices Area under the theme "Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life".

In parallel with this two-week exhibition, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region also staged a poster exhibition at the atrium of Hong Kong New World Tower to promote Hong Kong. The poster exhibition comprised a series of display panels to reinforce the theme of connectivity, including Hong Kong's connectivity with the Mainland and the world, in terms of both hardware and software, as well as the city's connectivity to nature, to the past and to the future. Some posters showed how Hong Kong is connected by diversity, ideas, creativity and technology.

The poster exhibition was supported and sponsored by New World China Land Limited, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited, Xpromo Brand Services Co. Ltd., and Hong Kong Sun Fong Chung Primary School and Hong Kong Vigor Marching Band.
